After a spectacular overnight sail across the Florida Straits, the Harvey Gamage this morning arrived in Havana and cleared customs routinely at Marina Hemingway.  The ship was greeted by her owner, Phin Sprague, who was already there for meetings with Cuban officials, his third visit to the island since September.  These discussions, about marine conservation and the coastal environment, will continue on the boat.  Then we’ll make the hard sail around the island to our homeport of Cienfuegos on the southern shore – and prepare for the arrival of our first cohort of University of Southern Maine students for our accredited winter term course.
