A Weekend on Hurricane Island

Our Fall 2017 Gap Semester students spent the weekend at the Hurricane Island Center for Science and Leadership, an island center off the coast of Maine that offers experiential, hands-on education programs and research opportunities focusing on marine sciences and environmental stewardship.  We learned that the island was an old granite quarry boomtown and that some of the granite remarkably made its way to Havana, Cuba!  We had a blast lobstering, rock climbing, and learning about scallop farming and the importance of Maine’s burgeoning shellfish farming industry.
