Ocean Passages Statement on
Cuba Travel Warning
In response to health concerns affecting personnel at the U.S. Embassy in Havana, the State Department on September 29, 2017 issued a warning against travel by American citizens to Cuba. Ocean Passages has carefully assessed the details of this warning. We extend our deep concern for the 21 American diplomats and any other individuals whose health has been affected. Based on State Department reports that the health concerns were limited, and consistent with our legal travel authorization from the U.S. Departments of Treasury and Commerce, Ocean Passages will continue our 2017-2018 educational voyages to and within Cuba on schedule. Our schooner Harvey Gamage has already sailed from Portland, ME for our winter homeport of Cienfuegos, on the island’s southern coast. Ocean Passages will continually reassess the situation to ensure the health and safety of our crew and students.
